Due to the size and weight of the Salerno Giant Aluminum Sidepost Umbrella we recommend using the zinc plated ground insert base to permanently mount this umbrella. This base is cemented into the ground and allows the inner umbrella support tube to be easily removed for the off season while leaving only the top plate to be flush with the ground. The permanent base is designed for commercial applications and windy areas. A semi-permanent deck mount base is available for use on wooden decks too. If you want to be able to move the umbrella to a different location on your patio the free standing base is a better option. The freestanding base requires 400 lbs. of stabilization which can be accomplished with eight 20" square patio blocks or by weighting the free planter kit included with this set (a $65 value!).
